Very exciting days - after eight years toiling over a candlelit desk the book is finally out.

Yellow Line

I've been working on Yellow Line for some time. You could say years! When I first lived in Qatar in the 70s I went up the coast and found a desert road with a single telegraph wire and a few adobe ruined houses at the end of it. I took some pictures and that was that. But the image of the lines and emptiness stayed with me. I liked the way David Hockney dealt with the desert in Calfornia and later when I discovered Richard Diebenkorn. It was a challenge to clear the mind of people and fuss and reduce Tankerton promenade to the lines and shapes featuring that now fading yellow line. The Sailing Club was fun to do. I've always liked the shape of the building and alongside the beach huts I endeavoured to Mondrianise the space. The best thing about it - there aren't any dogs!
